(Ho Chi Minh) 10 April 2018 – Cargill today opened its first 80,000 metric ton storage facility for grains and oilseeds at Saigon International Terminals Vietnam (SITV) port in Phu My town, Tan Thanh district, Ba Ria-Vung Tau province to meet growing demand for grains primarily in the food and animal feed sectors. Customers will be able to receive high-quality agricultural products faster, more efficiently and more cost effectively from the state-of-the-art facility, which has been equipped with world-class equipment to ensure maximum quality, safety and security.
This is Cargill’s first grains and oilseeds storage facility in South Vietnam. Ba Ria-Vung Tau province provides the ideal location as it is already a hub in South Vietnam for port operations and grain handling. It is the only port location that can handle large-sized vessels like Panamax and post-Panamax. In addition, Cargill found a strong and trusted partner in Saigon International Terminals Vietnam Limited (SITV). Cargill has another 50,000 metric ton grains and oilseeds leased storage facility in North Vietnam in Cai Lan port, Quang Ninh province.
“Vietnam is a key market for Cargill and this new storage facility strengthens our ability to supply high-quality feed grains and animal feed products to our customers.” said Alan Willits, head of Cargill’s grain and oilseeds business in Asia Pacific. “This investment is part of our strategy to expand our business to meet the growing demand for feed grains and animal feed, driven by increased meat consumption amongst Vietnamese consumers.”
In the past three years, the volume of grains and oilseeds handled by Cargill in Vietnam has grown four-fold from 400,000 metric tons to 1.75 million metric tons. By 2020, Cargill expects this to increase to more than 3 million metric tons, making it one of the largest importers, marketers and distributor of grains in Vietnam.
Into a new digital era
Alongside the investment in the storage facility, Cargill will become the first company in Vietnam to offer customers a digital platform that will provide real-time information including warehouse stock position, shipment status, product orders and contract status updates. The digital solution, which will be launched in June 2018, enhances Cargill’s supply chain capabilities and allows customers to access information faster, easier and more efficiently to streamline their operations and improve controls with synchronized sales, warehouse and truck operations.
